Music Monday: Ticks by Brad Paisley
It's already that time of year. I was fixing fence with my brother this weekend and was covered in ticks...

Music Monday: Lady Gaga "Hair"
When it comes to Lady Gaga, there are two distinct groups of people: those that love her and those that can't stand her.
I like her because she's so unique. But others hate her for that exact reason. "She wears weird costumes" or "She does weird things to her hair" are the reasons for disliking her. But those are the same reasons I like her.
In this version of "Hair" she talks about why her hair is so important her. Her hair and costumes are part of her identity, part of what makes her different from others.
You may not like her, but why wouldn't you want to "die living just as free as [your] hair"?
[Lady Gaga - Verse 1]
Whenever I dress cool,
My parents put up a fight
And if I’m a hotshot,
Mom will cut hair at night
In the morning I’m sure of my identity
I scream Mom and Dad
Why can't I be who I wanna be?
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to love me for who I am
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to know, I am my Hair
[Chorus]
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
I’m not a freak
I must keep fighting to stay cool on the streets
I’ve had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I’m as free as my hair
[Lady Gaga - Verse 2]
Sometimes I want to rock on some highlights
Just because
I want my friend to think that I am dynamite
And on party, roxy, high school dance
I got my bangs too hard
That I don't stand a chance
A chance
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to love me for who I am
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to know, I am my Hair
[Chorus]
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
I’m not a freak
I must keep fighting to stay cool on the streets
I’ve had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I’m as free as my hair
[Bridge]
I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties
I don't wanna change,
And I don't wanna be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my Hair
It's all the glory that I bare
I am my Hair!
I'm my hair, I am my hair
It's all the glory that I bare
I'm my hair-am my hair
I'm my hair-am my hair yeah!
[Chorus]
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough
I’m not a freak
I must keep fighting to stay cool on the streets
I’ve had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear
I’m as free as my hair

Music Monday: Rough Boy by ZZTop
At my last job, I was trying to explain to a coworker who ZZtop was. This guy is a good ten years older than me; he should have known this band! I opened up the media player on my computer, and started playing clips of ZZtop songs like Sharp Dressed Man and Legs. I never realized before how much of their songs are just guitar playing. I mean, that's their thing, they play guitar really well. But it wasn't until that coworker said "Are there any words in this song?" before I realized just how few words there are compared to guitar!

Music Monday: President Obama
It's so refreshing to hear about the love that the President and First Lady have for each other, rather than hearing about scandalous extra-marital affairs.
A couple weeks ago, President Obama was at a fundraiser and sang Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". It brought a smile to my face.
Especially after I saw aFirst Lady Obama on Jay Leno. She said that the President randomly breaks out in that song because he's so in love with her. Makes my heart melt. (I tried to find that clip, but didn't see it on youtube...)
Here's Al Green live:

Music Monday: Waylon Jennings "Rainy Day Woman"
Who would have thought I would learn a new song from my 16-soon to be 17-year old cousin?
A song that's almost older than both of our ages combined. This song was released in 1974.

Music Monday: Coldplay "Death and All of His Friends"
I might or might not have already posted this song. I can't find it if I did.
This is one of my favorite Coldplay songs ever. I have three of their albums: Parachutes, X&Y, and Viva la Vida. This is off Viva la Vida.
The whole humping-the-piano part of the video is a little weird, but I completely understand not being able to sit still during that part of the song.

Music Monday: Shout by Tears for Fears
This year for my birthday, I received one of those "On this day in History" papers from my financial advisor at Edward Jones. There are several songs listed that were top songs in 1985, some of which I am familiar with and like. So for the next month, we'll take a trip back in time and listen to some songs that are 27 years old.
