Today I planted some of the onions from the Intermediate Day Sampler from Dixondale Farms. I planted six assorted rows (because the intermediate day sampler is all mixed up), with three "ditches" of fertilizer. The rows are like so: onion, fertilizer, onion, onion, fertilizer, onion, onion, fertilizer, onion.
I also planted some leeks today. They will be sharing a bed with the artichokes (all of which seem to have overwintered. I pulled the straw off that bed yesterday.), squash, and cucumbers. On the west end of the bed, I planted two rows of leeks with one row of fertilizer down the middle. On the east end of the bed, I planted three rows of leeks without any fertilizer. This is an experiment to see if the fertilizer is necessary.

Garden Report 03.20.2011
I planted spring veggies today:
Tonda di Parigi Carrots
Tall Telephone Garden Peas
Golden Beets
Chinese Red Meat Radish
Hollow Crown Parsnip
Rocky Top Lettuce Mix
Chantenay Red Core Carrot
Chioggia Beet
Giant Noble Spinach
White Vienna Kohlrabi
European Mesclun Salad Mix
What I need to do this week: Plant onions.
The tomato seeds I planted are all looking good. I need to replant some of the peppers and all the eggplant because the germination rate is not so good.
I am also going to start the following inside:
Batavian Full Heart Endive
Slo Bolt Cilantro
Red Mexican Hat Wildflower
Yellow Prairie Coneflower
I also should probably take some soil samples over to the MO Extension office soon to see what the soil deficiencies are.
The greenhouse needs vent openers on the other three windows. For this summer, I don't think I'll put the insulation or (heat sink) rain barrels in. The next thing to work on is getting brackets and shelves in on the south side of the greenhouse, some hooks for tools, and a planting bench. I've also been on the lookout for some kind of large urn/pot to put the bamboo stakes in during the winter.

Garden progress
Almost all the tomato seeds sprouted, enough that I won't need to replant. No eggplant seeelings yet. Good germination of the Rosso and Marconi peppers. Some Banana and Poblano. The Red Cheese pepper seeds molded so I replanted yesterday. They are older seed though and might not germinate.
I now have both lights going 12 hours a day (7am to 7pm) and the heating mat on 24/7.

Music Monday: ZZ Top "Sharp Dressed Man"
I've been to two ZZ Top concerts and I'd go to more... I love them! Especially the synchronized dancing starting about 1:30 into the video.

Tomato seedlings!
Seed heating mat has won me over. It took weeks last year to get seedlings this size!

Music Monday: Creedence Clearwater Revival "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?"
When I'm having a bad day, this song cheers me up. It always has. It's also a great song for a roadtrip CD. Since I'll be traveling all day tomorrow, to SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO!!!!, I decided to post this today.
Music Monday: Brandi Carlile "Dreams"
Here's more of the music I've been listening to. She has an Indigo Girls sound.
